Iowa Bicycle Summit
Thursday December 06, 2007 7:12PM
The Iowa Bicycle Summit registration is now open. You can register at http://www.iowabicyclecoalition.org/summit.htm.
The January 18-19, 2008 Iowa Bicycle Summit has an exceptional agenda, hosted at the Holiday Inn Downtown Des Moines. Friday begins with a full-day technical workshop on bicycle facility design presented by Theo Petritsch, formerly an engineer with the Florida DOT. The Saturday session is designed for the grassroots advocate as well as the community official or leader. Saturday topics include bike to work week, community physical activity, bicycle parking innovations, bicycle club membership, getting your message out, trail associations, and encouraging short trips by bicycle with Trek's One World Two Wheels program. The evening is concluded with the 2008 Bike Night fundraiser at the Capitol Room in Des Moines.
Please help us get the word out about this valuable conference. This is a great opportunity for your city officials to attend, so pass the word!

We had another successful race, this time at Stephens Park last Sunday!
First, I would like to thank all of the racers that came to participate and make this race a fun event. It was a beautiful day starting at 56 degrees that rose to 66 by race end, and, we had a steady SSW wind at 12mph all day. There were 56 racers (counting the kids race) that competed on the new course... that seemed to go over well with everyone.

Jingle Cross Rock
Friday October 12, 2007 1:51PM
The 2007 UCI Carousel Volkswagen Jingle Cross Rock is now only 6 weeks away.
As I have always envisioned this, we have made this Iowa's event amongst all of the great cycling clubs and people here. The DICE team was instrumental in organizing the course construction last year and we are getting excited about this year's course at the Johnson County Fairgrounds again.
But I feel it is important that I keep all of the great clubs involved in this event as no single club could possibly organize it with the size that it is now. The USAC permits have 5 teams as the organizers including Priority Health, Team Skin, DICE, Atlas, and the Iowa City Cycling Club.
As we are getting close, I would like to really push the limit on attracting attention to this event.
Our race website is www.JingleCrossRock.com
Thanks....John Meehan, 319 331-0671

5th Annual DICE 40K Time Trial Results
Tuesday July 17, 2007 9:10PM
First of all I want to thank everyone for a great turnout for this event, especially to the out-of-towners who traveled to come and race with us! We had riders from IL, IA IN and WI ranging in ages from 12 to 80 years old. We had 112 racers doing 117 rides. The day stayed beautiful the whole day starting with 70 degrees at 9 am and only climbing to 75 by 1 pm and the wind started off calm at 9 am and only got to a WNW wind of 5mph by 1 pm. So...we thought today might see some course records fall.

Sorry for the delay with results we had a little confusion and had to correct the top 10 of the Cat 4/5 race. Additionally the 22-26 finishers are listed as a tie as we were unsure of the actual finish positions.
I like to personally thank the 100 plus racers who came out an dodged the rain. Luckily the only effects of the weather was a slight delay of the OPEN Event and some minor crashes on the damp pavement in the turns.

First, I want to apologize for the delay in getting the results posted for everyone. We had a few technical difficulties that popped up and caused a few problems. With the help of Bob Lundberg and a lot of the riders coming forward and stating that their times were a full minute faster than they should be, I started to investigate the causes and I believe Bob and I have everything resolved.

Friends of the Animals Bike Ride Fundraiser
Saturday April 14, 2007 7:42PM
I am writing regarding a small afternoon bike ride in Cedar county that is a fundraiser for the Friends of Animal Shelter in Tipton. They are desperately in need of a new building. We have the plans and estimates, but just lack the money! Our shelter works with other animal rescue groups in and around Muscatine. The building we are presently in houses approximately 20 dogs and 50 cats. It is an old machine shop and is disrepair and very poorly insulated (our heating bill for February was $1000). So you can see we are very anxious to get going on this project to provide more suitable housing for our misplaced pets waiting for a forever home. This will be a short ride, 17 miles from the Tipton fairgrounds through town and out Cedar Valley road and circling around Buchanan road and then back. It is very beautiful countryside and if the weather cooperates it will be a fun time. If you could help us by getting the word out to your club we would really appreciate it. There is a link on our website that can be downloaded for the application and more information. It is http://www.foa.thinkhost.com/
Thanks a ton for your consideration!
